European Style Sits Well On Cerato

KOREAN car maker Kia headlined its Australian International Motor Show with a new car penned by new design chief Peter Schreyer, the new Cerato featuring the company's new "face of Kia" that will go on sale here next year.

It is an interesting mix. The former Volkswagen designer joined Kia two years ago he was responsible for both the New Beetle and the original Audi TT coupe and the Cerato is his first work.

Not surprisingly he has brought European design values to Cerato. Longer, wider, roomier and with shorter front and rear overhangs than the current car, it runs a noticeably longer wheelbase and wider tracks and even the boot, at 415 litres, is roomier.

At the front Schreyer has incorporated what he refers to as the "H-grille", a design highlight expected to become a trademark of future Kias designed by Schreyer.

A Kia spokesman says the new car, due in showrooms in the first quarter of the new year, bridges the gap between small and medium cars, not only in its size and spaciousness but also in its engine size and output.
