BMW has confirmed its 7-Series luxury large car (pictured above) will go on sale here early in the new year, with four models on offer from launch and a fifth set to join them later in the year.

The entry-level 740i and long-wheelbase 740Li will be powered by the same 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, six-cylinder engine used for the 135i and 335i models, and will be the first six-cylinder 7-Series models to be sold here since 1992.

They will be joined by the 750i and long- wheelbase 740Li models, both powered by a 300-kilowatt, twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8.

The fifth model, powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel and called 730d, will be added to the model line-up in June or July.

Pricing for the new luxury models has been set at $203,000 for the 740i, $218,000 for the 740Li, $274,000 for the 750i and $291,000 for the 740Li.
